Travel Challenge: The Adults-only Escape

September 9, 2010 Travel Challenge

We’re a couple looking for some winter sun. Sightseeing doesn’t bother us this time, we just want to completely chill out. We can travel between 29th October and 1st November for 10-12 nights. We know it won’t be hot in the Mediterranean and we’re open to suggestions about where we go. We have been looking at Egypt but most of the hotels we have seen have kids’ clubs. We don’t dislike children, but we’d really like a peaceful child-free holiday in an adults-only hotel. The other constraint we have is budget: Around £500 each for 4 / 5 star bed and breakfast or half board. We would consider all-inclusive if it was a good deal, but it seems that most all inclusive hotels cater for children. We can fly from any London airport  – A & A.

We know just the place. It’s a little further afield than Egypt, but worth the longer flight for the stunning beach and top-notch accommodation. The Blue Bay Villsa Doradas hotel is located close to the perfect tropical shoreline on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It has spacious, contemporary rooms that look a lot more expensive than they are. There are three a ala carte restaurants as well as the main buffet, plus a 24 hour snack bar. With three swimming pools, a swim-up bar, a great choice of activities and an on-site spa, this is the perfect place for a relaxing beach holiday. In the main resort  Playa Doradas, you’ll find a great choice of bars, casinos and restaurants, but all you need is on site. Best of all, this hotel is a totally child-free zone, meaning you’ll get the peace and quiet you’re craving. It’s a popular choice for those seeking an affordable luxury honeymoon, which goes to show what a great couples hotel it is. If you do like golf, you’re about 100 metres from an 18-hole golf course. This isn’t an exclusively-golfing hotel though. You can enjoy watersports and lessons in speaking spanish, making cocktails, dancing, even preparing sushi! Of course, if you’re after a truly romantic getaway, forget the activities and just relax on the beach or by the pool.

The offer we’ve found is a little over your budget for half board but the all-inclusive package means you’ll almost certainly spend less than you would if you went bed and breakfast or half board at £500.  All inclusive is excellent value-for-money – as long as it’s good. The Blue Bay Villas Doradas has more than just a four star rating and a long list of facilities; it’s got an excellent reputation. This is essential when you’re booking paying upfront for your food and drink. The majority of online guest reviews are very positive and you can’t get a better recommendation than that…
