Trade Secret #2: Get a Great Deal While School’s Still Out
July 6, 2010 Travel Trade Secrets
It might seem wise to hang on until peak season is over and mid season begins, but some of the best deals on package holidays can be found on the cusp of the two…
Everyone knows that package holidays are more expensive during the school break. Prices are based on demand and in the summer holidays, it is so high that there are few deals to be had. This, coupled with the fact that resorts are busy and crowded, means that many child-free travellers wait until children have gone back to school for their break. It makes sense, but because demand for holidays in the first week of September then becomes high, they are not actually very cheap. Tour operators know that there will be a surge of adults looking to get away as soon as term time hits. If you are travelling without kids and are looking for a cheap getaway, don’t make the mistake of only looking for holidays that depart from the beginning of September onwards – there’s a whole heap of empty seats in the last week of August.
Holidays departing in the last week of August are no good to families with children, because they don’t arrive back home in time for school restarting. Few people are looking for holidays on these dates because the adults are too busy trying to find their deal out of peak season and only searching from September onwards. This results in low demand for late August getaways, plenty of free seats and more deals to be had than there are for September departure dates! Look out for for 14 night holidays that overlap into term time going for cheaper prices than the week-long ones that don’t. If you’re lucky, you might find a holiday that encompasses the Bank Holiday Monday, meaning you’ll need to book less annual leave from work.
We found this great deal to the popular Hermes Hotel on Kos, through Hays Travel - departing on 26th August, seven nights bed and breakfast costs from £295 per adult, including resort transfers. We can’t promise it will be completely child-free, but the Hermes is in a tranquil location and its rooms sleep up to a maximum of three, so it’s unlikely to attract large families. Call 0800 408 4131 or search Hays Travel’s website for some brilliant late August deals.
