Trade Secrets #1: Sometimes Two Weeks are Cheaper than One.
June 8, 2010 Travel Trade Secrets
At Be Travel Savvy, we know a fair bit about the travel trade. We have decided to share some of our trade secrets with our readers so that you can learn savvy ways to find brilliant holiday bargains. In the first instalment of this new series, we tell you why a two-week package holiday is often cheaper than a week….
In recent years, demand for 14 night holidays has dropped. The recession means that holidaymakers have less spending money to take abroad with them and demanding workloads mean that fewer people can afford to take a fortnight off work. Consequently, tour operators are often left with more availability on their two-week packages than they have on their week-long holidays, forcing them to apply some serious last-minute price reductions. Sadly, so many customers are searching for a seven night getaway that they don’t even see the brilliant deal they could get on escaping for twice as long. Yes, you’ll need more spending money, but plan carefully where you go and it needn’t cost a fortune…
We’ve found this late deal to the Yigit Bey Apartments near Fethiye, on Turkey’s Turquoise coast. Turkey isn’t in the Euro zone, so paying your £10 visa fee to enter the country saves you a fortune in spends when you’re there. Travel from Manchester on 19th June and two can share a self catering apartment for 14 nights from just £189 each, including resort transfers. A 7 night package to the same accommodation, departing Manchester on 21st June costs £195 per person.
As you’d imagine from looking at the price, the Yigit Bey apartments aren’t the lap of luxury. Still, you get a swimming pool and air conditioning units for hire, all against a dramatic mountain backdrop just 800 metres from gorgeous Calis Beach. Family run, set in well-tended gardens and with just 12 apartments, this complex (if you can even call it a complex) is a charming place to stay. We’ve read a few online reviews from guests complaining about barking dogs and morning calls to prayer from the local mosque – we say that’s better than the sound of the late night discos in nearby Marmaris . Pack your earplugs and enjoy a taste of authentic, rural Turkey for a bargain price. And next time you’re searching for a holiday, try looking for a fortnight instead of a week – you might just bag yourself a better deal.
