Hidden Gem #3: Al Manzil, Dubai

June 8, 2010 Hidden Gems

Accommodation in Dubai seems to be all about extravagance and holiday brochures love to shout about it. The world’s first six star hotel, the hotel with its own private dolphin bay, the hotel that lets you arrive by helicopter… It’s a wonder anyone ever notices the Al Manzil. Those who do notice this four star gem in Dubai’s Old Town and decide to check in don’t regret it – it currently ranks number one out of 382 Dubai hotels on customer review site Tripadvisor.

Understated Luxury - the pool at Al Manzil

Al Manzil has a relatively modest 197 rooms and suites. It is a new building, but it maintains charming, local character with its Arabian-style decor. Standing within walking distance of the city centre and the landmark Burj tower, it is perfectly located for those who want to explore the centre of the city. Sun worshippers can relax on the deck by the outdoor pool and beach lovers can take advantage of the complimentary transfers to Jumeirah Beach Park. There are four good restaurants on site, including the esteemed Nezesaussi sports bar.

What we love most about Al Manzil is its ability to blend tradition and modernity. The focal point of the hotel is a beautiful Arabian courtyard where guests can relax and enjoy a shisha pipe in the evenings. The hotel is walking distance from the glittering Dubai Mall, but travellers seeking a more authentic local shopping experience will love the direct access to Dukkan Al Mazil, a stylish and traditional market.

The guest rooms at Al Manzil continue the ethos of modern comfort and original Arabian styling, with ornate glass lanterns hanging perfectly against a backdrop of modern photography. It is a business hotel in the centre of the city, but it is equally welcoming to holidaymakers seeking a boutique stay.

Combining old and new - guest rooms at Al Manzil

The quality food and service, good range of facilities and covenient location of Al Manzil all combine to make a hotel deserving of its stellar reputation. What makes this hotel stand out from its enormous, dazzling neighbours though is its understated style and loyality to its location. Relaxing in the courtyard on a warm evening, taking in the scent and sounds of the bubbling shisha, you’ll feel like you’re on a true Arabian getaway. Isn’t that how a holiday in the United Arab Emirates should be?
